The Wade Factory, 1946
In 1946, George Wade established a factory in Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.
Originally known as Wade (Ulster Ltd), the factory was intended to expand the companies reach beyond its base in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
Irish Wade is most famous for its blue - green glaze. The factory produced beer steins, tankards, leprechaun figurines, ashtrays and trinket dishes as gifts and souvenirs.
The brand flourished in the 1950s and 1960s and changed their name to Wade Ireland, but the Portadown factory faced economic challenges towards the end of the 20th century, production slowed and they eventually closed their doors in 1990.
Because the Portadown factory closed down, Irish Wade , particularly village scenes have become highly collectable
